LISBON is the least discovered capital city in Western Europe. A lot of its old town is preserved with it's historical buildings and its cobbled stone pavements and pedestrianized areas with “calçada polida Portuguesa”, Lisbon is an amazing city to visit. What many people don’t realise is that it has several interesting sites to visit with children too. Cascais is a charming village on the coast right on the edge of the greater Lisbon. It is famous in history for having housed the summer residence of the Portuguese Royal Family in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Thus it is full of historical buildings and castles. It is only 20 minutes from the centre of Lisbon by highway and it boasts some of the most beautiful scenic coastline in the world. Further along the coast towards central Lisbon lies Estoril, famous for having provided a sanctuary during World War II for those escaping the turmoil of war. Europe’s largest casino is located here and the Palacio de Estoril is said to have inspired Ian Fleming to write about that ever-famous character, James Bond.

Sintra is a picturesque town in the foothills of the Sintra Mountains and boasts the UNESCO world heritage title for its 19th century Romantic architectural monuments including the whimsical, pastel-coloured, Moorish- and Manueline-style Pena National Palace.

Various day trips can be organized depending on what you want to do. Please just ask at the Martinhal Cascais reception.
