In our last post, we provided a broad overview of what the Algarve and Pine Cliffs Resort have to offer (and explained why thousands of tourists can’t be wrong!). In this post, we’ll outline some of the top villages and towns across the Algarve that can’t be missed if you’re up for a holiday of adventure and excitement. Use this guide to help you narrow down your top destination and create the holiday of a lifetime.

Alvor

Those who want the authentic Portuguese experience shouldn’t miss the charming old-world town of Alvor. During the day its cobbled streets, delightful fishing harbour, chic boutiques and excellent gourmet restaurants make it an ideal place for a day out lazily taking in the charm of old Portugal, but at night the area turns into a lively mix of nightclubs and music venues keep the party going till the small hours of the morning. The town also features a lagoon, river, and warm, secluded beaches offering a perfect getaway from the busy beaches of Albufeira.

Olhos d’Agua

Bordered by the Algarve’s famous red cliffs, Olhos d’Agua is found in central Algarve. This sleepy fishing village provides a charming place to relax and soak up the rays. Watch the fishermen haul in the day’s catch while you sip a locally brewed ale at the authentic restaurants that line the streets of this lovely village. Olhos d’Agua also features an excellent small beach nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the main stretch of the Algarve’s coastline.

Lagos

Lagos is an old, Moorish town in the Barlavento area that features gorgeous, original 16th-century architecture and truly dramatic beaches flanked by soaring, rocky cliffs. Popular with history buffs and water sport enthusiasts alike, Lagos offers some of the best surfing in the region and an expansive Moorish castle that can be explored for hours. Lagos also offers a popular marina that features boutiques, high street shops and plenty of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes.

Albufeira

We’ve already mentioned Albufeira in the last blog post, but we can’t leave it off a list of the top places to visit in the Algarve! Albufeira is what made the Algarve as popular as it is today, and it’s no surprise why. This picturesque town embodies classic Portugal, brimming with lovely cafes, restaurants and boutique shops, all framed by one of the most stunning beaches in the world where golden sands open onto the deep, turquoise ocean. At night the town comes alive with music and dancing at the town’s famous nightclubs and bars, making this an ideal destination for sunbathers and partiers.

Vilamoura

Last but certainly not least, visitors who appreciate the finer things in life shouldn’t miss the luxurious Vilamoura, an upscale seaside town centering on the vast marina at the heart of town. Here multi-million pound yachts are the norm, as are the world-class restaurants and luxurious bars that line the city’s streets. History fans will find some adventure here, too, with the town’s original Roman ruins that are well worth the visit.
